Qualifications for Chartered Property Insurance Umpire: CPIU
A combination of any three following items will meet the NAIU Qualifications.
Required State Licensing as an Insurance Adjuster or Public Adjuster, in any State in which you practice. Proof of current licensing is required.
Required State Licensing as a Practicing Attorney, in any State in which you practice. Proof of current licensing is required.
Required State 40 Hour Mediation Course, in any State in which you practice. Proof of current certification is required.
Required State Licensing as a Professional Engineer in the Building Industry, in any State in which you practice. Proof of current licensing is required.
Required State Licensing as a General Contractor or Specialized Contractor, in any State in which you operate. Proof of current licensing is required.
A Degree from an Accredited University and/or verifiable practical experience in Construction Technology.
Umpire Certification Document from the Windstorm Insurance Network or verifiable training from another Umpire source.
Active Haag Certified Inspector designation in Residential Roofs, Commercial Roofs or Wind Damage. Proof of "Active Certification" must be updated every year.
Prior verifiable experience as a Property Insurance Umpire.
Umpires must remain competent, independent and un-biased.
Knowledge of States property claim laws and jurisdictional issues in any State in which you practice.
Physical ability to inspect damaged properties, which includes the climbing and inspection of claimed roof damage.
An Umpire must produce a written report or estimate for any property damages and be able to distinguish between Replacement Cost Value and Actual Cash Value.
